My science article assignment was on the American Journal of Veterinary Research. I had never explored the shelves of 3rd floor of the Cameron library before being given this assignment. The main journal that I have used in my studies, and that professors have referenced was actually the Journal of Animal Science. Initially that was my choice, but I wanted to look at a journal that delved a little more into exactly what my interests are. I explored many fascinating journals and textbooks related to animal research, veterinary medicine, and more. Thanks to this assignment I will be a frequent visitor to this area of the library.
Until this point every single article I obtained for my studies has been off the internet. Looking through all the old journals on the shelves of the library made me feel like I was looking through archives from the past. Writing my paper really helped me realize how much our world changed in my short 20 years of existence. Although back when the big old journals were written and internet wasn't available, these were one of the few forms of obtaining the latest information in research, I was very happy to see that journals still play a huge part in our learning today. I believe that even with new methods of information transfer, journals will always be a trusted, and important institution of learning.

I would like to add a link to Emily Shand's blog as she talks about here science article assignment and brings up the interesting discussion of open access. I totally agree with her and my favorite point was about how many more people could get the information that would otherwise never have the chance.

oops here is emily's link
